Ellacor Treats Skin Laxity without Surgery

When we talk about how to treat facial skin laxity, fine lines, wrinkles and sagging, we can add volume, or we can subtract excess skin. A facelift is a major intervention that removes excess skin (it is more complicated than that), and that is not always needed. Fillers add volume, but that treatment is really only for when minimal intervention is needed. For all of us that wind up needing that middle ground option, Ellacor is a very intriguing treatment we now offer. Ellacor is also FDA cleared for the lower face and around the mouth which has historically been difficult to improve, even with a facelift.

Micro-Coring™ not micro-needling

A microneedling treatment is a similar skin treatment on the surface, but there are big differences. Both devices are going to provoke the body’s healing response and produce collagen. Microneedling uses a solid needle and punctures the skin. There are versions of this that are fancier with RF or topical add-ons, but microneedling in the end punctures the skin so it’ll heal.

Ellacor is a micro-coring device. Perhaps you’ve heard of ice cores, or mining cores, cylindrical cut outs that let you see all the layers stacked up. Miniaturize all of that to a hollow needle so thin it does not cause a scar when it enters and leaves with your skin, that’s Ellacor.

How does Ellacor work?

Like microneedling, a device is used to cause micro wounds that trigger collagen production. Ellacor goes further. When the hollow needle reaches the end of the skin tissue, a vacuum removes the micro core. It does it over and over, moving in a grid, carefully and methodically working over the treatment area. All of these invisible to the naked eye tissue removals can account for up to 8% of the skin’s volume.

Not only does Ellacor trigger the collagen producing healing response, it is also removing excess skin. And the result is noticeably smoother and firmer skin.

What is treatment like?

The treatment area is numbed with local anesthetic, then the handpiece is moved across the treatment area as the device performs its microcoring. Pinpoint bleeding is common, minor and stops quickly. The micro-corse will heal over before you’ve left the office, no stitches or bandages required.

What can I expect during recovery?

Redness and swelling for a few days. The treatment area should be covered in ointment for one to two days. No make up should be worn and no harsh products used for a week. There can be a visible pattern to the skin (easily covered with makeup) that fades over the weeks following the procedure.

Who is a good candidate for Ellacor?

Ellacor is a non-surgical treatment and FDA-cleared for ages 22 and up, and Fitzpatrick skin types I-IV. If you are on blood thinners, are pregnant or nursing, or have a history of keloids, Ellacor is not right for you, but we can discuss the treatment options that are available if you request a consultation. A series of 3 is recommended for those with more moderate or severe wrinkles. Procedures can be repeated after just 30 days.
