Fat Injections
Because volume loss is a component of aging, volume replacement can be an important part of rejuvenation. Fat injections are performed by doing a small amount of liposuction (from an area like the tummy or hips), centrifuging the fat to make it concentrated, and then re-injecting it using small smooth tipped cannulas into areas like the cheeks, chin, and lips. About 20-30% of this fat will remain permanently after about 3-4 months, and it is a great way to enhance the results of a facelift. Fat transfer alone, or with other procedures like laser and eyelids, is also another cost effective way to add volume, especially in patients with more significant global volume loss. Fat injections have great benefits because they are natural, long lasting, and even add restorative benefits to the skin, but there are areas where the precision and lifting ability of fillers are required for the best result.
