Fat transfer breast augmentation uses your body’s fat (taken via liposuction) to enhance breast volume, correct asymmetry, or refine results after implant removal. This approach is best for patients seeking a small increase in size (less than one cup size) and who have enough donor fat. A portion of the fat will take permanently, while the rest is absorbed. This procedure can also be repeated over time to achieve additional volume if needed.
Fat transfer breast augmentation uses your body’s fat (typically taken from areas like the tummy, thighs, or “muffin top”) to increase breast volume, correct asymmetry, or enhance post-implant removal results. If you’re looking to avoid implants and want a modest size increase (less than one cup size), this may be a great option for you—especially if you’re also a good candidate for liposuction.
During the procedure, the harvested fat is carefully processed and re-injected into the breasts. The amount of fat that can be injected depends on the thickness of the breast tissue, as overcrowding the area can decrease how much fat survives. Generally, about 50% of the transferred fat will take permanently, while the rest is naturally absorbed by your body. The fat that “takes” will fluctuate with weight changes—if you gain or lose weight, your breasts will follow suit.
For some patients, multiple sessions may be recommended to reach their desired volume, depending on how much donor fat is available. It’s also important to note that fat transfer can create new changes on mammograms or ultrasounds, so baseline breast imaging may be recommended before and after the procedure for reference.
Fat transfer breast augmentation isn’t for everyone, but for the right candidates, it’s a natural and effective way to achieve subtle, beautiful results without implants.
